Riotsteel has released an upgraded double-wing expandable container house that delivers approximately three times the living space of a standard container within a single transport unit. The new design targets remote workforce housing markets in Australia, Canada, and the Middle East.
The unit starts as a standard 20 ft ISO container (6 m × 2.4 m). On deployment, both long-side walls hinge outward and the integrated floor and roof panels extend to create a 7.2 m × 6 m interior—43 m² of usable space compared to the 14 m² of a closed container.
Deployment uses an integrated electric winch system powered by a standard 220 V supply or portable generator. Floor extensions are supported by eight adjustable screw-jack legs with 300 mm of height adjustment for uneven ground. Roof panels seal at the ridge with interlocking aluminum profiles and EPDM gaskets tested to 200 mm/hour rainfall.
Inside, the expanded unit can be configured as a two-bedroom accommodation with separate bathroom, kitchenette, and living area—or as an open-plan office for 8–10 workstations. Wall-mounted split-unit air conditioning and LED lighting are pre-installed. Optional solar packages provide off-grid capability with 3 kW of photovoltaic panels and 5 kWh of battery storage.
